Vehicle Tracking System Solutions from MappointAsia
Vehicle Tracking System is a system that combines Global Positioning System (GPS), with GSM phone network and Software with map to allow real-time tracking of vehicles.
(FIGURE Showing how AVL system works)
MappointAsia has been developing and implementing vehicle tracking system since 1997. Starting with the implementation of Bangkok Police dispatch management system that included real-time patrol car tracking system using private digital trunk radio to today's GPRS on GSM network, we have been developing solutions that give the most values to our customers.
Today we offer both real-time and vehicle data logging device solutions that meet requirements of all fleet sizes and industries.
As GPRS becomes move widely available and cost of operation moves steadily downward, vehicle tracking has become more accepted as the technology that can help reduce fleet operation costs. More of our customers are opting for real-time solution vs. data logging.
We have different solutions for different customers' needs.
Vehicle Tracking Terminology
Vehicle Tracking Unit (VTU): Hardware that combines GPS and GSM unit for installation in vehicle. Its function is to obtain coordinate and communicate with the AVL server. MappointAsia VTU's automatically switches between GPRS and SMS mode as desired.
Polling server: A computer that serves to communicate between VTU's and Tracking Center . The communication method can be a direct connected GSM module, via Internet or lease line. The server also serves to maintain databases of all parameters and tracking data.
SmartFleet Professional: Software to control all activities associated with tracking and display of vehicles.
SmartFleet Client: Software to display status and positions of vehicles being tracked.
1) Corporate customers with GSM server – designed for corporate customers who desire to control and manage their fleet system themselves.
In this configuration, SmartFleet Server located at customer location will communicate directly to Vehicle Tracking Units, VTU's, using direct connect GSM module as shown in the figure above.

SMS communicate using dedicate SMSC will provide more reliability and performance for tracking system.
3) Corporate customers with Internet server – designed for corporate customers who desire to control and manage their fleet system themselves. This configuration allows corporate customers to control and manage their fleet system themselves and to avoid the SMS communication problem by using SMSC gateway to mobile service providers. SMS messages are transferred via dedicate SMSC provides reliability and performance to tracking systems that processes high number of transactions. In the GPRS configuration the GPRS gateway also allows for large amount of data and frequent tracking transactions at the lowest costs.
In this configuration, all components are essentially the same as the first . The major difference is the communication method employed for large volume transactions.
SMS messages are not directly sent to and from the direct connect GSM unit since the performance could drop due to GSM module delay in proportion to the number of vehicles being track and number of transactions in the system. Instead, SMSC provided by GSM operator, is the more appropriate solution for high volume configuration. The main advantage of this configuration is that tracking system will have a dedicated line or channel of SMS to use for both uplink and downlink.
